Dyslalia is very easy to identify. When a child over 4 years old mispronounces the words, not achieving a correct articulation of the syllables, the family environment, as well as the educational one of the child, will notice it.

At first, many will try to help you, correcting his speech, but without an oriented and specialized treatment, it is very difficult, already at this stage, to solve the problem in a homemade.

There are many factors to consider when defining a cause for a child's dyslalia. However, defining the cause is essential for subsequent specialized treatment, since this intervention will vary depending on the problem: organic or learning. Possible causes of speech disorders are:

1- Phonological delay When the problems are related to a delay in speech development. The child simplifies the sounds because he did not learn to produce the more complex ones in his language. His articulatory capacity is not affected.

2- Phonetic disorder or dyslalia When the child did not acquire in a correct way the movement patterns that are necessary for the production of some speech sounds, which means that the child does not move the muscles that are responsible for speech, as it should, and therefore makes omissions , substitutions and distortions of some sounds of the language.

3- Physical alterations When the child presents physical malformations in the organs that intervene in speech and that prevent him from pronouncing many sounds. Injuries to the nervous system can cause alterations in movement and coordination of the muscles involved in speech. Dental malocclusion, lingual frenulum, or lip malformations (eg, cleft lip), can cause dyslalia.
